About Us

Heightox is an independent review of design, architecture and the built world — for the people who draw it, make it, specify it and live in it.

We are not a portfolio site and we are not a press-release wire. We start from the questions that actually get argued about on site and in studio — does this stand up, does it belong here, will it age well, who is it really for — and we go and look, measure and ask before we write a word.

How we work

Every building study begins with a visit, not a render. When we review an object, we use it. When we praise something, that judgement is our own — reached by looking closely, never by being paid to look kindly.

  • Independent. Editorial calls are made by the desk, and only the desk.
  • Structural. We care how a thing is held up and put together, not just how it photographs.
  • Honest about weathering. We say when something has aged badly — and when it has aged into itself.

The desk

Heightox is written and edited by a small group of critics, architects and designers. Tips, corrections and well-argued disagreements are all welcome — the good ones sharpen the next issue. Reach us via the contact page or at [email protected].

A softer Sunday, weekly.
